New webstore update for December/ January 2009/ 2010!!

It's been a few months since we've updated the webstore and we've got a couple of new titles in there, notably some of the newer Release the Bats Records releases and the new Monozid album on both CD and vinyl LP format. Towards the tail end of 2009 the webstore didn't expand nearly as much, and there's been less new titles finding their way in there, but hopefully come the warmer months of 2010 we'll start to put some more new stuff in there. Mt Sims presents: Happily Ever After....Again!!

Though it's not a Hungry Eye release per se, we are happy to announce the teaming up of Mt Sims with Italy's Punch Records for the release of Happily Ever After... Again. After the release of Happily Ever After, Matt continued to work non-stop in the studio on new material with one song following the other. By the time a european version of Happily Ever After was under consideration, there was enough a wealth of new material and the european version started to look like a sequel to the story of Happily Ever After. Included are alternate mixes of "the Bitten Bite Back," "Grave," and "Love's Revenge" from Happily Ever After, and "Unwound" from the A Grave EP along with 10 new never before released songs. This will be out in late January 2010 and is available for pre-order now (in a pre-order package that includes a limited edition t-shirt). Have a look here for pre-order information!

Some more info below:

Like the sequel to a novel, Mt.Sims (Matt Sims) returns with his magnum opus entitled "Happily Ever After...Again!" as the final response to his previously released album "Happily Ever After". This new album begins where the last one left off, asking the questions "why am i here", and "how can i transcend myself". With songs like Grave and The Bitten bite back linking the past to the present, Sims's text dissect the human condition, giving it a hard look and pointing out the repercussions and could be repercussions of our behavior. As one sinks deeper in the head of Mt.Sims, it becomes clear that this album is a story dealing with faith and the worship of ideology. From the perspective a solider with many faces, Sims skips around from army to army, side to side, life to death, present to forgotten. From song to song, the one can hear a voice questioning his own identity and the way that he sees the world. Candy coated, a song of violent obsession, screams in ending "how could you love me to destroy me?" Disappearing act drives like a car on a never-ending highway. What the driver must deliver is his own soul. As Sims sings " I see my footprints on the floor but i can't see myself anymore", one can realize the voice crying out from the speaker, in an acousmatic tradition, is separated from its owner who at this point has vanished from site. As the Soldier changes faces, he is Orpheus, he is a Kamikaze pilot, he is the ghost of childhood, he is a gypsy and he is finally Matt Sims. This album is a journey where fiction and fact intertwine and leave cold impressions about human behavior and our need to believe in something. Lyrically this album shows that most of the time our ideologies need us. From floating psychedelic textures and screeching synths to strange yet beautiful melodies that writhe and twist around deadly disco beats, one can come closer to understanding the necessity of contradiction in modernity. One may find themselves by losing themselves in this soon to be cult classic. A mixture of Electronic and acoustic, this album delivers an environment to question all that you believe is true.... but don't believe a word we say.

Hungry Eye webstore update September 2009

It's been a while since the Hungry Eye webstore has seen an update, but we've got a few new things up on the webstore. New releases by DC's the Opposite Sex (their brand new EP), the limited self-released CDRs by Black Ice entitled Block Ice, two LPs from Sweden's Tar... Feathers by way of a German label, a restock of the second Frustration CDEP "Full of Sorrow", and some new stuff and restocks by Dead Beat Records (check out Juanita y Los Feos). After slowing down a bit on the webstore front, we hope to swing it into to full gear again shortly with some new material that will be showing up there in the coming months.

Additionally, we made put together some special deals for those that are interested. To start with, there's an Opposite Sex bundle (get their debut album Violent Heartstrings and the new Live and Burn for $19). Then there's a bundle of material from Aussie label Dual Plover. This is the same label that brought you Naked on the Vague--which we had, but has since sold out. They've got a catalogue full of similarly minded weirdness. For $30 you can check out CDs by Gina V. D'Orio (singer of Berlin's Cobra Killer doing her own side project), New Waver, and Volvox. [Not unlike the notorious Blank Dogs in that this is the brain-child of a single person composing some demented pop songs. Mac Blackout is a former member of Chicago's the Functional Blackouts and and a current member of Daily Void branching off to record his own material. Already releasing a slew of singles on the likes of Sacred Bones and FDH, and getting some rave reviews at the likes of Terminal Boredom and Victim of Time. We hope to get some more of this guy's records in; for now we've got both things released on Dead Beat; the self titled LP and the Rabies Babies CD. Both are great.]

Red Voice Choir- Apparitions out now... for FREE download!

The last, sadly posthumous EP by the short lived but very promising Red Voice Choir is now available from Hungry Eye as release EYE19. In conjunction with the band, as promised, we are offering this record to download for free through our website.

new Red Voice Choir EP out soon on Hungry Eye

True, true, our next physical release will be the long-awaited Missing Foundation reissue. But in the meantime, we've worked with the fine folks in Red Voice Choir to bring you this band's final 4 song EP as a free download. If you've checked out their previous, impressive "A Thousand Reflections" EP on Sam Atakra's Atakra Records you might have noticed this band contains members of Black Ice and Death of A Party, and the Holy Kiss's original bass player Dawn. Quite a line up boasted there, we definitely definitely had our eyes on these folks. The band dissolved not too long ago due to other commitments, though not before making sure to get another 4 tracks recorded in a studio that were too good to be shelved.

Stay tuned for more details (in fact, you can start by having a look at the newly minted RVC page on the Hungry Eye website), in July you'll be able to download the new EP entitled "Apparitions" for absolutely free from the Hungry Eye website!

Mt Sims- new video for "Grave" out now!

Berlin based band Mt. Sims has just released a video for the song "Grave" off of the recently released third album album on Hungry Eye Records entitled "Happily Ever After". The song, says vocalist/ guitarist Matt Sims, "deals with human nature which, going along with animal nauture, has a tendency to fight against itself. Willingly we fight and defeat ourselves in an attempt to save ourselves." Produced by photographer and former East Village Radio program director Echo Danon and directed by Danon and Bart Grieb, and shot on location in the abandoned Spree Park in Berlin. Danon is a long time collaborator with Matt Sims, having previously shot photos for the band, done some production work for the previous Mount Sims album "White Light" and background vocals on the Mount Sims/ the Hacker track "Traces," and even worked with Matt on the band/ project So Does the Fire (http://www.myspace.com/sodoesthefire). Grieb is is an independent film director and visual artist, as well as the president of Cygnet Films. This is his first project with Mt. Sims.

Work on Missing Foundation reissue completed!

It's about time, isn't it?

We're very pleased to share that the work on the Missing Foundation reissue has officially been finished, and the whole project will be going to press at the end of March/ beginning of April. We'll continue sharing news of its progress and will announce an official release date once proofs have been approved, but we can hope for a release on this finally in early summer of 2009.

Look for the entry on the Augenmusik blog for more details and a sneak peak at some of the mock ups in their final stages.

the Holy Kiss- new record, new tour, the end?

So we have good news and bad news regarding the Holy Kiss. First the bad: after a good run spanning a good portion of the decade, the Holy Kiss have decided to throw in the towel. Still looking to fight the good fight, members are splintering off to other cities across the US (some winding up in New York, others in Portland, some staying in the Bay Area), this will make it near impossible to continue. Still, you'll more than likely see these familiar faces pop up in new bands in no time.

The good news, though, is that this will not be happening without a good amount of fanfare as the band is releasing their final record (and first recordings with Alli and Panther in the line up), entitled "Under Noon of Night" in a limited vinyl LP format. It's a collaborative effort between the band and Hungry Eye, will be limited to 500 copies and boast a silk screened cover. The final tour will also be their first jaunt over to Europe, and will take the band to Spain, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic. Be sure to check back for a lot of news regarding the Holy Kiss in the coming weeks.

Mt Sims remix by True Pseudo

Remix crew True Pseudo have released a remix of Mt Sims "The Bitten Bite Back." These CA folks have recently made a name for themselves for remixing the likes of Arcade Fire, Crystal Castles, MGMT, and others. It's a heavy and distorted affair, and delivers a generous share of the oonce. It's making its way around the interwebs, so if scouring blogs for remixes is your sort of thing, you might well find it soon. If you'd rather just get a quick link, we can direct you to Big Stereo's posting of it.

We won't let the cat out of the bag just yet, but you'll be seeing some other Mt. Sims remixes pop up in the near future. Right now, the plan is to release these remixes in 2009. Stay tuned....

Mt Sims- video for "A Grave" forthcoming!

In a short amount of time, Mt Sims will release a video for the staggering song "Grave," which appeared on Happily Ever After as well as on the A Grave EP.

It was a 2 camera shoot filmed in the abandoned Spreepark in Berlin over the course of 2 days by Bart Grieb and Matt's long-time collaborator Echo Danon. Bart is an NYC photographer (currently shooting an A&E biography), has been a gaffer for the past 7 years, and owns Cygnet Films, the lighting rental company. Echo is a familiar face in the music, photography, radio, and film world herself, who, along with shooting camera B, did make-up and helped with wardrobe and production.

The Holy Kiss have finished recording a new record with Scott Brown (Black Ice, Phantom Limbs, Intermission) as well which is pretty spectacular. News of what will happen with this platter will be forthcoming. In the interim, a number of videos have popped up on youtube. Hungry Eye has seen it's own share of press in the past couple of months.

First off, there's a start-up in Berlin called NYLVI that is looking to launch in September. According to their website: "NYLVI will be a social marketplace for buying and selling vinyl records structured to reflect the worlds music scenes. Our aim is to make local musical innovation globally available to a community of music lovers and record collectors, and thereby support artists, independent labels and record stores."
They approached us, seemed interesting themselves, and had some questions to put to us which they posted as an interview on their blog. See here: NYLVI blog

Then, some fine fellow in Italy took it upon himself to write an in-depth article for the website Ondarock introducing their readers to the monster that is Hungry Eye. While I can't read Italian, the article name-checks the likes of Chrome, Factrix, Negative Trend, Minimal Man, and Subterranean Records, so we feel rather honored.

Now, there's this cool fanzine out of Leipzig Germany called Transmission done by some good guys from the band Monozid that released it's 7th issue a few months back. Gracing the pages, alongside interviews with Blacklist, Wierd Records, Swann Danger, and Entertainme.nt, is another Hungry Eye interview with yours truly. It's a print fanzine, always a great thing, and more information can be found here on their myspace site.

Bellmer Dolls to open for the Bad Seeds @ MSG & 9:30 Club

As anyone who's taken a gander at our home page could notice, the Bellmer Dolls have 2 upcoming shows in October. After having opened for Grinderman in San Francisco last year, King Ink and Mr Sclavunous are having them back for more, this time opening for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in New York and in DC.

Well, we hope to have sufficiently proved that this is no longer going to be the case. Indeed, we've been in the process of streamlining and improving the site for over the past year.

Saros signs to Profound Lore Records

We are happy to announce that San Francisco's Saros has signed with Profound Lore Records. They've finished recording their new album, "Acrid Plains" with Billy Anderson at the helm. This will be the follow up to their 2006 album on Hungry Eye "Five Pointed Tongue" and will appear on Profound Lore as on of its first releases of 2009. More details can be found

Adam Nodelman RIP.

It's with a heavy heart that we have to report the passing of Adam Nodelman of Missing Foundation. He died suddenly on August 25, 2008 at the age of 43. A message from his current band mates in Sunburned Hand of Man has been posted here.

Adam was a married man, father of 3, and had an enthusiasm for music which is reflected in his great CV of past bands. He was currently collaborating with us to finish up the Missing Foundation reissue. It had more than seen its fair share of delays in the past few years and Adam was a great catalyst and good guy to work with. He will be missed dearly.

Memorials are being planned currently, the details thereof are being made available by members of Sunburned Hand. They are asking for anyone with photos or videos of Adam to send them in: sunburnedhand@gmail.com

Webstore update: new Catastrophe Ballet titles & Swann Danger restock

A recent update to the Hungry Eye webstore saw the addition of some titles courtesy of the great Catastrophe Ballet Records out of Portland. These include re-stocks of the Strange Dolls Cult 7" and Flowers in the Dustbin- It's OK to Be Ugly CD retrospective, and some newer records, like the neat-o Garten Kirkhof CD and two 7"s by the Vancouver band Spectres (on another label from PDX Whisper in Darkness). Also included in the update are CDs by Swann Danger. The self-titled 10" is now sold out, but we got copies of the CD version on the band's own Custody Night School label and we finally have some more copies of the debut album Deep North.

Also, the clear vinyl version of the Mt Sims- A Grave 12" has now shipped to the distributors, and you can get it through the webstore youself. Of the 50 copies of the pre-order/ test press version, we have 5 copies left through the webstore.

Finally, we're nearing the end of July, which means the 5 CDs for $50 deal will be over. The new stuff is obviously part of the deal as well, so be sure to get in there if you had any intention of taking advantage of this.

For the months of June and July 2008, Hungry Eye is holding a sale in the webstore: any 5 CDs for $50 (ppd in the US). Help us make some room and make some scratch for upcoming releases. So far only a few people have taken advantage of this. Mix and match between Hungry Eye and non-Hungry Eye titles.

A bunch of new titles were added to the store recently, including the likes of the Daily Void, Crime Desire, the brand new Entertainment CD, both Lineas Albies CDs, and the finish synth-krautrock outfit Siniaalto, the Throbbin Urges, and some import copies from Israel of the Beaufort soundtrack (melodic electronica for an award winning film scored by a founding member of late 80's Israeli post-punk band the Top Hat Carriers). In addition, we still got copies of popular titles by the Funeral Crashers, Opposite Sex, the Holy Kiss, Raccoo-oo-oon, Skull Defekts, Dead Beats, Naked on the Vague, and Nora Keyes.

We've still got some vinyl in the store, and are hoping to get some more in the coming months, but in the meantime we're also running low on the copies of Enfant Terrible stock we've got with 1 - 3 copies left of the Trumpett comp LP, After the Snow LP, and Agent Side Grinder 7". Although we snagged a whole bunch of copies of the Sixteens/ Lineas Albies split 10"s, we're already down to the last few copies of that.

Sixteens w/ Swann Danger/ Magick Daggers in Aug '08

Sixteens will be joined by the Magick Daggers and Swann Danger for a tour of the Northwest in August '08. Dates are still being booked, and you'll be able to find them by going to any of those bands' myspace pages, but a preliminary glance seems like San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle all have dates, with some more to pop up shortly. In October, Sixteens head over to Lisbon to play the Drop Dead Festival, and in the process stop by the UK and France on the way there. As above, dates will be posted as they become available.

the Holy Kiss/ Sixteens/ Mt. Sims: PRESS!

If you are a Spanish-speaker, or just want to hone your Spanish speaking skills, you'll want to make your way to the Spanish webzine/ blog La Letra Capital for their recent interview with the Holy Kiss. Many thanks to them also for their recent reviews of a slew of Hungry Eye material.

In other Hungry Eye-related news in foreign languages, France's D-Side magazine recently published a feature on Mt Sims in their May/ June issue (along with a Mt Sims track on the accompanying CD). They also had some kind words to say about the "A Grave EP" (as well as Mt Sims' "Happily Ever After" which isn't even out yet), and Sixteens- "Into the Gold Wave..." It was nice to read some kind words alongside interviews with Frustration and Ladytron!

And, in German, Dorfdisco attended a recent Mt Sims show in Berlin and had some nice things to say about the performance.

Bellmer Dolls: pictures from Charleston residency

The Bellmer Dolls finished off their residency at the Charleston in Brooklyn with much fanfare, accompanied the previous weeks by friends like the Choke, Preacher and the Knife, Fresh Kills, the Brides, Shock Cinema, and the Secret Machines. They also managed to squeeze in a short tour of the northeast with the Secret Machines, supporting them in Philadelphia, Boston, and Albany.

We hope to have more Bellmers news in the coming month or two, but in the meantime, we can point you in the direction of a new section of their website, which showcases a series of photographs by Tim Richardson who documented their residency at the Charleston. According to our friends at Rich Girls Are Weeping, who were on hand to witness the dates, it was quite an affair.

Saros finishes recording second album

May saw Saros complete the studio work for their second album, which will be entitled "Acrid Plains" and was recorded by Billy Anderson at Sharkbite
Studios with additional expertise lent by Justin Weis (Trakworx Studios) and Shawn Biggs (Paradiso Studio). Saros will be posting song samples and information pertaining to the release on their myspace page as it becomes available. Three song samples are currently posted!

Saros will also be playing the Tidal Wave festival at the McLaren Park Amphitheater in San Francisco. This is a big, free festival they'll be playing alongside Hirax, Exodus, and a whole slew of other bands.

Skabs- CONTENT album now reissued for digital

Hungry Eye is happy to announce they've made the long out of print album "CONTENT" by veteran NY band the Skabs available in digital format. Available in very limited quantities as a split 12" in a hand screened sleeve, CONTENT is considered by many to be the band's finest hour.

The Skabs hailed from all boroughs of NY and started in the punk scene on the Lower East Side in pre-Guiliani New York, packing in shows at clubs like ABC No Rio, CBGB's, and Coney Island High alongside the bands of that era. Though they appeared one of the popular "Punk Uprising" compilations alongside Anti-Flag, the Bouncing Souls, Kill Your Idols, and H2O, and toured the United States numerous times, their recorded output remained scarce. They eventually opted for a more post-punk sound, broke up in 2001 and posthumously because a bit of cult-commodity. Old fans and interested new-comers will be happy to find the remastered version of CONTENT with some additional bonus tracks never before released.

Here are the updates for April 2008.

Pre-orders are now up for the upcoming Mt. Sims - A Grave 12" EP which will be shipping at the end of the month. The first 50 pre-orders through the website will receive a limited test pressing version of the record (in it's proper sleeve, of course). These will be super-limited and only available to the band, label, and the lucky folks who pre-order the record. Take note those of you who are into that sort of thing! Also available is a Mt Sims pre-order bundle with the Bellmer Dolls and Sixteens- Fendi 12"s (look at the "Special Offers" section on the webstore). Stock up on some nice vinyl. If only ordering 1 record/ 1 copy of the Mt Sims record, please take note of the minimum order. There's a $35 minimum on vinyl orders for overseas orders due to postage costs, but if you only want 1 of these, there's an option with postage for one copy.

Also available is a Black Ice special bundling up all 3 of their releases at once.

New titles available this month are a new 7" by Portland's the Prids, the newest Deadbeats CD entitled "999 Ways to Die," and the recent Sixteens/ Lineas Albies split 10" coming out of Spain. (More Lineas Albies material should pop up on the webstore this month as well).

We're running low on the Frustration CDs, Vanishing Kids CD, Swann Danger 10", the Holy Kiss- Back to Colma 7", and I don't know if we'll be able to get more of those, so get them while you can.

Unreleased web-only Black Ice tracks available from band's website

Black Ice has made some unreleased songs available via their website for download. They plan on doing this every so often, so if you've found yourself missing some new Black Ice material about a year after "Myopia" was released, find your way to their website. More specifically, direct your browsers HERE. Pasted below is a little communique from the band explaining the web-only songs. Also: have no fear, new Black Ice material is in the works.

We have a large archive of material that for one reason or another has not seen the light of day. the Holy Kiss debut new songs!

The Holy Kiss recently took another road trip to southern California to play and handful of gigs down there to the sun-drenched masses. In addition, they played with a 12 Galaxies show in San Francisco to get them riled up for the gigs, and appeared on none other than Tony Dushane's Drinks With Tony radio show on Pirate Cat Radio, earning them the fine distinction of being the only artist to appear on the show thrice. If you've listened to their previous appearances (once with the Bellmer Dolls, another time with Kristen of Sixteens), you'll know Mr. Dushane's interviews are well-mannered, highly proper affairs, so you will of course bear witness to the Holy Kiss on their best behavior. If you missed it, the wonders of the internet might rectify the situation if you direct your cursors right here.

Another factoid of note: the Holy Kiss are finishing up the work on a new album entitled "Under Night of Noon", and debuted some of their newest songs on said radio show. In addition, they posted some new tunes on their myspace page, located here: http://www.myspace.com/theholykiss.

Sixteens and Black Ice make Kim's top 10 in NYC

It has recently come to our attention that both the Sixteens- Into the Gold Wave of Future Non Rip-off and Black Ice- Myopia CDs are being featured as recommended releases as part of Mondo Kim's "top 10" releases in their St Marks location in Manhattan. We thank our friends at Kim's (good lookin' out, Harris!), and recommend all interested New York residents to snag them them there because, for a limited time, they'll be available on sale for less than a 10 dollar bill. We don't know how long this will last, so we implore you to ignore the travesty that is St Mark's Place in 2008, avert your gaze before the mall version of CBGB's, and trek out to that bastion of CDs and records known as Kim's to pick these up. Moreover, the Black Ice release in question is running dangerously low in our own stocks, so now would be the perfect time to get your copy!

Mt. Sims joins Hungry Eye/ announces new releases

Mt. Sims and Hungry Eye Records are proud to announce their collaboration on a series of upcoming Mt. Sims releases.

Matt Sims has two albums under his belt on DJ Hell's International DJ Gigolo label as Mount Sims, the first of which, "UltraSex", saw an American release via Emperor Norton, and was supported through a North American tour with Ladytron. He's also known for his collaborations with the Hacker, David J of Bauhaus and Cross-over. The past year and a half has seen Matt relocate from LA to Berlin and and establish a new chapter in the Mount Sims legacy, rebuilding the band with Berlin musicians Randy Twigg and Andre Lange and working with producer Thomas Stern of the legendary Crime and the City Solution. "A Grave" 12" EP is the first offering of these new tracks and will be available in April 2008 as a limited 12" EP on clear vinyl with stunning artwork by Peter Wu (one time pressing of 1,000 worldwide) and a digital release.

Mt. Sims is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on the third album "Happily Ever After" which will see a release on Hungry Eye as well.

Sixteens to play Mutant Transmissions Festival in LA

Sixteens will play the Mutant Transmissions Festival in LA on March 14th and 15th along with Din Glorious, the Strip Mall Seizures, Loto Ball/ New Collapse, Medio Mutante, and a whole bunch more.

Mutant Transmissions is, of course, the moniker for the label (and related projects) by some of the people involved with the Drop Dead festival and magazine. For more information, go to their website.

Sharkbite Studios was a tremendously hard-working and fun experience for us all, and a very comfortable and accommodating space. Billy Anderson and Adam Myatt were incredible folks to work with, and there was enough time to improv some ideas. Ben and Leila will continue to do some extra tracking on the 15th at Paradiso Studios in SF, and then we will be ready to mix down at the end of the month!

16s release new split 10" with Lineas Albies of Spain

The Sixteens have a 10" record on the way coming from Spain courtesy of Lineas Albeas, who were so gracious as to split the disc with them. My understanding is that the band already has their copies, which you can purchase from them off their myspace page. Hungry Eye will also be getting our grubby paw on some of these puppies courtesy of our Spanish friends, and will hopefully be able to get some into stores and here there.

The Holy Kiss were recently voted San Francisco's artist of the month in the San Francsico version of the Deli Magazine. Many thanks to all those who voted for them. We didn't even get a chance to announce that they were nominated, but it seems they did quite all right on their own, thank you very much.

Now a banner of the Holy Kiss hamming it up at the mall in front of Hot Topic will grace the Deli's web site all month long. Well done!

Saros returns to the studio & goes live with new website

Saros took the last few months of 2007 off from playing shows, but they've been busy in their absence, to say the least. First of all, guitarist/ singer Leila now moonlights in both Amber Asylum and Bastard Noise, two experimental Bay Area bands. As for Saros, they begin recording their new album on February 22nd at Sharkbite Studios with Billy Anderson. As soon as we have more information on this new endeavor, we will share.

Also, a new Saros website has popped up at www.sarosphere.net. You can head over there to find out the latest information, as well as scope out the new t-shirt designs the band has for sale.

For those of you who 1) still prefer to buy music in hard copy (we salute you!), and 2) live in the countries of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, "Into the Gold Wave..." is now available available throughout those countries in fine retailers everywhere, thanks to the efforts of our friends at Strobelight Records, who've so graciously distributed the CD through their own distributor at home, Al!ve. It was officially released in November, which means copies should be anxiously awaiting you on the racks in stores throughout the land, hoping to be given a new home. Think of them as puppies in the cages at the pet store.

If you've spent any time perusing the Hungry Eye website in the past week, you might have noticed some subtle changes going on. In an effort to make due on our long standing promise to clean up the website, we're updated some of the band pages here and there, cleaning up the layout a bit, and adding some more video content (since, as they say, "the kids love the youtube"). You can look at the Holy Kiss page and the Vanishing page for some evidence.

In addition, the webstore has been organized a bit better, with the CDs and vinyl now constituting their own sections, and the titles appearing in alphabetical order for easier browsing.

Now for a little behind the scenes information: all of this this has a lot to do with the fact that I (Dan) have finally started making heads or tails of Dreamweaver and have been going in and tweaking the pages the existing pages. In the near future, you might very well see a Distribution page that actually has current information, a press section for Saros that actually has press clippings in it, a real Links page, and so on and so forth. So, check back often because all the pages will have new information in the coming weeks and months.

A recent update to the webstore (http://www.hungryeyerecords.com/store.html) sees some re-stocks and some new editions, so we just wanted to send you a quick heads up.

First off, the Frustration- Full of Sorrow CDEP as well as the Opposite Sex- Violent Heartstrings CD are both back in stock. We also got a few more copies in of the now out of print Black Ice- Terrible Birds album. Still have a few copies left.

I should let you know that we're running low on the As Mercenarias- Cade As Armas CD (absolutely classic Brazilian post-punk!) and the Hunt 7"s. Swipe those up while you can because we probably won't be able to get more of these.

Highlights of new stuff-- the debut Funeral Crashers CD (NY postpunk- years in the making!), Red Voice Choir CDEP (members of Black Ice, the Holy Kiss, Death of a Party), Deadbeats (great minimal electro from the US), and the Dansetten- Max Rouletta CD (awesome Danish post-punk). Finally, we also have a few copies of the Hex compilation LP from Holland.

Our good friends in Red Voice Choir are featured in the San Francisco version of the Deli this week with a little interview on the website accompanying a review of their great "A Thousand Reflections" CDEP, which of course, you can can buy from the Hungry Eye webstore. As aforementioned, Hungry Eye is helping out with distribution for this record, and our distributors will have their copies later this week so you should find it at all the usual suspects any day now.

One final request: Red Voice Choir were nominated as the band of the month for the Deli Magazine SF's monthly poll for the month of November. In other news, Hungry Eye is distributing the spectacular debut CD EP by O-town's Red Voice Choir. They're kind of extended-Hungry Eye-family as it is, having members and ex-members of Black Ice, the Holy Kiss and Death of a Party, and the CD was released on the great Ataktra Records. You will see it pop up any day now in our online store and quite soon it will wind up in the hands of our own distributors as well. So, the usual suspects should be carrying it.

First of all.... we offer our apologies as we goofed a little with the news. In a previous posting, we gave you the wrong date for the the Sixteens interview that was to happen on East Village Radio's Modern Products show. In reality, the show took place on April 26th and featured Aaron from Sixteens. Though, fear not, you can podcast the show here and listen to Aaron talk about Sixteens' 16RPM origins and his wanting to go visit the site of underground anti-gravity experiments in the Czech Republic.

In other radio news, the Holy Kiss will head down to San Jose to play a live set and do an interview on September 1st at our other radio allies KFJC at 89.7 on your FM dial. These are the same kind folks that have been big Hungry Eye supporters in the past, with DJ Ophelia Necro spinning all the disks from day one, and Guy Montag doing that great Hungry Eye special about a year ago. Joining them will be New Yorkers Woman.

Lastly, if you missed the Holy Kiss and Sixteens interviews on Pirate Cat Radio with Tony DuShane last week, you can download the show at Tony's "Drinks With Tony" website. Very nice show, as usual with Mr. DuShane, that includes the classic assertion: "Not a lot of happy elf music on Hungry Eye." This, by the way, is our new slogan.

Rollins' $.02 on the Bellmer Dolls

As promised, Henry Rollins played a Bellmer Dolls track last night on his Harmony in My Head show on indie 103.1 in California (I suppose it might have something to do with not being in California). I must say, I wasn't terribly familiar with his show before and was quite into it. Besides the Bellmers, the Fall, Hendrix, the Rondelles (anyone know the Hungry Eye relation there?), Beefheart, and William Bell found their way into the same episode's playlist.
And Y Pants, the Poison Girls, Eddie Cochran, the Minutemen, Eno, the Need, the Pop Group, and Kraftwerk all found their way onto recent shows. I think your friends at Hungry Eye will be checking back to this show often!

He also includes little liner notes-style blurbs on each band in the playlist. Very cool. The Bellmers managed to gleam this one:

"Bellmer Dolls - There Is No Oblivion: From The Big Cats Will Throw Themselves Over EP. I saw this band open for Grinderman the other night and I liked them a lot so after the show I went to the merch booth and bought their CD, that’s what you do! They were cool. Hungry Eye releases now available in FRANCE!

Manic Depression and Hungry Eye Records are proud to announce their new partnership for distribution in France. Parisian label Manic Depression Records (home of Frustration, Deadchovsky, Wallenberg, and others) will now be handling the distribution of Hungry Eye titles in France and surrounding territories. This will include the releases by the Bellmer Dolls, the Weegs, Black Ice, Sixteens, the Phantom Limbs, the Holy Kiss, and the Vanishing, which have not been available in France until now except on import or when the bands passed through on tour. In addition to offering them for sale through their mailorder Manic Depression is also feeding the releases through their distributor Seasons of Mist so the releases will be available in stores for early fall. Manic Depression and Hungry Eye have communicated for a few years now, and Lionel of M.D. has set up many of the Parisian shows for Hungry Eye bands over the years. It is a pleasure to announce this partnership.

Well, we told you they'd go quickly.... and they did. Both the debut full length CDs by Swann Danger (Deep North) and the Opposite Sex (Violent Heartstrings) are now sold out from the Hungry Eye store. August sees some new titles coming into the Hungry Eye store, all of which are top quality. In fact, there's a few rare gems in there you'll want to jump on quickly because we have limited quantities of most titles. First off, 2 new ones by the great Dutch label Enfant Terrible; After the Snow (who you might recognize from the Wierd comp performing as Sleep Museum) and Agent Side Grinder, and a very special CD by the legendary As Mercenarias of Sao Paulo. In addition, we have some new material by the likes of NY's the Hunt, SF's Swann Danger, and DC's Opposite Sex. GO TO THE WEBSTORE!

We have had a few titles sell out in the meantime. The Curse of the Birthmark 12"s are sold out, as are the Abandonned reissue CDs and both Frustration CDs. We'll definitely be getting more of both of the Frustration CDs shortly, and we're trying to score some more of the Abandonned CDs as well.

The Swann Danger, No Hope for the Kids, and Ende Schneafliet titles are all dangerously low, and I doubt we'll be able to re-stock most of those so jump on them while you can.

Bellmer Dolls/ Grinderman show reviewed in Your Flesh!

Just a scant few days after the Grinderman/ Bellmer Dolls show in San Francisco (we're still waiting to get word as to how the following date went with Rykarda Parasol at the Hive gallery went), a review of the show popped up on the legendary Your Flesh! zine, which is now enjoying its new life as a web-based publication. The show got a great review (obviously), and they had some quite nice things to say about our boys over there.

But, then again, wasn't Void on the cover of the first Your Flesh back in '81? They do know good shit when they see it!

Folks have been asking us for a while where to get "Terrible Birds" by Black Ice. Hungry Eye is completely out of copies, yet there's still a good number floating around in Europe through a German distributor. Dan from Hungry Eye stopped by East Village Radio to say hi to our dear friend Harris Smith during his show Modern Products on June 24th, and Harris was kind enough to let him say a few words to his listeners about some upcoming events and general goings-on. Always the HE supporter, there's some Black Ice and Sixteens tracks in the podcast as well as Harris's trademark melange of post-punk, dub, and spaghetti western sounds. Download the podcast here!

Then, on July 2nd, back in la belle provence, dodging thunderstorms along the way, Hungry Eye descended onto the hallowed halls of Concordia University's CJLO radio station for an interview and to play some tracks on Nassim and Pierre's Beautiful Music for Ugly Children radio show. General hilarity ensued and much fun was had, and tracks spun by the likes of the Bellmer Dolls, Black Ice, the Holy Kiss, the Skabs, and non-Hungry Eye artists like Frustration, Entertainment, the Need, Nacht'raum, Abwaerts, and Siekiera. Black Ice- Myopia CD available in stores in Germany now!

Black Ice's CD "Myopia" (in addition to making it up on iTunes last week) is now available in most stores in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, thanks to our friends at Strobelight Records and Alive Distribution.

In the meantime, Hungry Eye Records is running dangerously low on our copies of Myopia, so if you're in those countries, do try to pick one up from your favorite record vendors (and if they do not stock it, ask them for it because they can get them!)

The Bellmer Dolls hit the stage once again... however, this time on the West Coast, opening for one of Grinderman's rare North American appearances. Grinderman are only playing 4 shows on these shores; two of them in San Francisco, and the Bellmer Dolls will be opening the show on July 27th. It promises to be a great show, but is, alas, already long sold out.

Hungry Eye releases now on iTunes!

Hungry Eye is very proud to announce that we've signed with the Virtual Label for digital distribution. Virtual is a fairly new aggregator, working with the likes of ROIR Records, Young God Records, Audika Records, and a handful of others, so we know we're in good company. To make matters more exciting, Virtual's owner cut his teeth in the record biz in the early days of Rough Trade and Factory Records, and was instrumental in setting up the first US office of Mute Records, so they certainly understand the music! We know it's been a long time coming to get our stuff in the digital format, but in spite of the delay, we're very happy with our agreement with Virtual.

We're happy to announce that some of our releases have already started popping up on iTunes. (Other digital stores/ platforms will follow shortly.) Keep an eye out for other releases that should follow suit shortly.
